COME AND VISIT OUR STUDIO IN BRAZIL
The childhood in the countryside and the legacy of Lina Bo Bardi, the fundamentals of carpentry and the inspiration in concretist art mingle in the work of Paulo Alves. The result is a legitimate expression of Brazilian design. Seen in perspective, the furniture designed by Paulo in 20 years of work unveils a creative logic in the use of wood, where it is – along with its natural and symbolic characteristics – the protagonist. Always with amazing results, his mastery of the original work with wood refers to the legacy of the modern Brazilian furniture masters.
Paulo graduated at USP-São Carlos. Before working as a designer he worked in the office of Lina Bo Bardi and also at the Bardi’s instutite, joining the first research team to take inventory the architect’s files for her book and the exhibition about the italian master after her death in the 90’s. These experiences were the main role model that shaped Paulo’s work, in which he saw on her reflections the culture and the popular knowledge, linking his childhood with the possibility of remembering it through design. Apart from the furniture and some special woodwork projects it also appears on Paulo’s architecture and interior work, developed in parallel.
